Bunjil

Since moving to the city I’ve been getting to know my new surroundings and neighbours. Notably, the 23 metre sculpture of Bunjil by Australian Artist Bruce Armstrong.

9 years ago, when I first landed in Melbourne, Bunjil was the first thing to greet me as my taxi pulled me into my new home. It formed my first impressions of Victoria.

Bunjil the eagle-hawk is the creator deity for the Wurundjeri people. He was responsible for creating the mountains, rivers, plants and animals.

Nowadays he is surrounded by buildings, cranes and skyscrapers as the city develops.

I like to think he is the 1 constant in an ever changing landscape.
